An autumn day in Milan

During these, little bit colder days we are facing an inevitable reality: summer is going to its end and autumn is knocking on the city’s door. But, if you’re planning your stay at Hotel Cavour, don’t worry: an autumn day in Milan can be full of appointments!

Is there any better way to start the day than having a filling breakfast? Speaking of which, the Hotel’s Bar will be a reference place for all your needs.

Moreover, the position of Hotel Cavour will let you begin the day enjoying the beauty of the autumn colours: the gardens in the stunning Villa Reale opens a few steps from the Hotel: it is a Villa built between 1790 and 1796 by the architect Leopoldo Pollack – on the commission of count Ludovico Barbiano di Belgioiojoso - overlooking just the Giardini Indro Montanelli.

Once covered the gardens’ paths it’s possible to take advantage of a tour at Palazzo Dugnani, at Civico Planetario “Ulrico Hoepli” or at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale. We would like to point out that the Museo is open for free every Sunday and that, besides the permanent exhibitions, “Time Out”, the first exposition dedicated to Giancarlo Vitali, is on display until 24 September.

From the gardens, the step to visit the dynamic area of Porta Venezia is really short and we’d like to suggest you to reach it, as last stage of the morning. Crossed by Corso Buenos Aires, the well-known shopping street, Porta Venezia is very commercial, but it’s also more than that: it presents, indeed, the first Milanese Liberty building, Palazzo Castiglioni, in clear contrast to the Neoclassic context of the area. Stop here for recovering energies and having a break: you’ll find something to satisfy your tastes!

Speaking of savory break, we'd like to point out the "Sweety of Milano", that is coming at Palazzo delle Stelline on 16 and 17 September: the first and unique event where it will be possible to meet the most famous Italian pastry chefs. Among stands and gourmet products at an extraordinary price and unmissable masterclass, the entertainment is guaranteed!

After a morning spent through nature and history, it’s time to benefit from the Milanese shopping: the area between Porta Venezia and Hotel Cavour is full of shops, boutiques and ateliers for all tastes. Corso Venezia, Via della Spiga, Via Alessandro Manzoni and Via Montenapoleone are the prestigious streets that define the well-known “Quadrilatero della Moda”, loved by the buyers from all over the world, most of all during the Fashion Week, coming up soon to the city.

Walking through the Quadrilatero is a unique occasion for tourists and citizens to experience the real Milanese atmosphere, surrounded by the world’s best national and international brands!

You could make purchases or only take a look at the many shop windows and also get lost among the most elegant streets such as, for example, via Borgospesso, via Santo Spirito and via Bagutta, a very active area from a cultural point of view as well. From here you can end your afternoon venturing into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele porch and, in the end, overlooking the very renowned Piazza Duomo.

An autumn day in Milan can be so full that could suggest you to do something more relaxing for the evening. When the sun starts setting and giving red shapes to the city, we recommend you to head to the Navigli, by the efficient means of transport. Here you could finish your day tour of the city with a delicious cocktail near the canal: the area will be crawling with colourful pubs where to enjoy the real Milanese happy hour surrounded by a welcoming and charming atmosphere.

Otherwise, if you prefer, in these first days of September the festival MITO is going on throughout the city, joining exceptional locations to excellent music. The schedule is various and is carrying on until the 20th of the month: speaking of which, we'd like to suggest you the free concert in Piazza Duomo, on 9 September. On this occasion, the Nona Sinfonia by Beethoven will be played by the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana.

Without forgetting that Milan has always international events on its schedule, such as the Fashion Week that will take place from 20 to 25 September, but also the Vogue Fashion's Night Out, on 14 September, a very awaited appointment. The event, at its 9th edition and named "Vogue for Milan" will be a unique opportunity to get in touch with the fashion world thanks to a planning full of appointments, from night-time shopping to music with international guests. You only have to choose your favorite way for spending your first autumn days.

At Hotel Cavour, we’ll be glad to suggest you the paths and the most interesting events for your discovery of the city!
