The Triennale of Milan is back in town

The international exhibition Triennale of Milan 2016 has recently opened its doors, 20 years after the last edition. With the title “21st Century. Design After Design”, the Triennale of Milan has now come to its 21st edition and it will be held from 2 April to 12 September.

The history of Triennale of Milan dates back to 1923, year of its foundation in Monza due to Guido Marangoni. Ten years later the residence was relocated in Milan within Giovanni Muzio’s Palazzo dell’Arte.

The Triennale was born as a cultural and international institution which organized design, cinema and fashion events as well as contemporary art exhibitions. The last edition was held in 1996, and in 2000 the Triennale changed its shape: from institution it became a foundation.

During the past the Triennale of Milan organized its great International Exhibition every three years, that is a series of exhibitions and events connected to each other by the same main theme.

This year the theme “Design After Design” is broad and multifaceted: it will look at the recent changes in the design field, at the impact of globalization on design, at the relation between city, design and new technologies, and at the concept of gender within the world of planning.

A thick and articulate programme will be offered for six months, with exhibitions, installations, talk shows, performances, concerts, festivals and conventions that will be held in different locations: the MUDEC, the Fabbrica del Vapore, the Hangar Bicocca, IULM University, the Politecnico of Milan, the Villa Reale of Monza and many others.

Furthermore, with this edition the Expo area in Rho will come alive again: the International Exhibition will use the Future Food District and the Auditorium to install six expositions. By the way, the President of Triennale Carlo De Albertis has announced that the exhibition in Expo will be opened only on the first of May.

So it seems that Milan is coming into the limelight again, a few months after Expo: The Triennale will take place at the same time with the famous Furniture Fair of Milan: our city has never enough of culture.
