Where to run in Milan

The ideal hotel for those who want to run in central Milan

The Hotel Cavour is just a few meters from the Indro Montanelli Gardens of Porta Venezia

For runners who don't want to give up training during their stay in Milan, Hotel Cavour is undoubtedly one of the ideal choices.

Just 200 meters from the hotel, the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens offer one of the best running routes in Milan: a 2-kilometer dirt loop around the park's perimeter, perfect for a short run or more specific training sessions, such as intervals.

Hotel Cavour is also perfect for athletes participating in the Milan Marathon, whose start is located on Corso Venezia, less than a kilometer from the hotel.

Every day is a good day when you run.

A park for everyone

The park is very popular in all seasons and in summer it offers numerous shaded areas.

Furthermore, those who wish to combine running with functional training exercises can take advantage of the “Wellness park” recently installed by MyEquilibria free of charge.

The best places to run in Milan

  • Indro Montanelli Gardens

Located between Porta Venezia and Palestro, these gardens are the closest to the city center. For over two centuries, they were called "public gardens" or "Porta Venezia gardens," then in 2002 they were named after the late journalist Indro Montanelli. They aren't huge, but they're perfect for those short on time or out of shape. You can run around the Planetarium, the Natural History Museum, and through areas that a few decades ago were occupied by a zoo.

Just a short walk from the park leads to another splendid garden: that of Villa Reale, which now houses the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna (PAC). These small but delightful gardens are a romantic haven surrounded by greenery. Here you can admire ancient ruins, fountains, tombs, moss-covered neoclassical statues, and a pond with ducks and small bridges.

  • Sempione Park

Behind the Sforza Castle, right in the heart of the city, lies a miniature forest! You can run for almost 4 km, passing by the Arco della Pace, the Triennale, and the Civic Aquarium. In the middle of the meadow, there are also plenty of equipment available for everyone to make your workout more complete. For less experienced runners, there's a short 600-meter course that circles the Arena Civica, whose indoor track has hosted major races and great champions.

  • The San Siro Hill

With its elevation changes, Monte Stella, better known as the "San Siro Hill," is the perfect place for more experienced runners. It is Milan's only artificial mountain, built with the rubble of buildings bombed during World War II. At its foot lies Campo XXV Aprile, a historic sports venue where great track and field champions still train today.

  • The Martesana

A trail immersed in greenery that makes you forget about running in the city for a moment! You can follow the canal that connects the Adda River from Via Melchiorre Gioia to Trezzo sull'Adda. While exercising, you can also admire some ancient villas and other unexpected beauties.

  • Idroscalo

The atmosphere is reminiscent of a lake or seaside, but it's actually one of Milan's most beautiful sports venues. While jogging, you can watch canoes bobbing on the water, and in the summer, there are even waterskiers!

Are you ready to go? Happy running, everyone!
