Exhibitions, festivals and more: the best events in May

May has just begun, but it has already offered a lot of cultural, architectural and musical initiatives in Milan, not to be missed. Let's discover them together!

Carlo Amorales' exhibition with thousands of black butterflies, 3rd April – 8th July, Fondazione Adolfo Pini

Fifteen thousands black butterflies on walls and ceilings: this is the first impression of the exhibition “L'ora dannata” of Carlo Amorales, a multidisciplinary Mexican artist. The exhibition, besides the silhouette and other works of the artists, includes the “Black Cloud” installation, a swarm of black butterflies that welcomes the audience already from the entrance staircase. An artistic and figurative flight that encourages reflection on the power of the language, the images and the comunication.

Piano City Milano, 17th - 19th May

Concerts during the night and at sunrise and more than 450 events in the city: the 2019 edition of Piano City Milano promises a great success, but above all great music. This unmissable event takes place in two main locations: the Gam Piano Center for the daytime and evening concerts and the Palazzina Liberty Piano Center for the night ones. Other little events will be performed at houses, rooftops, skyscrapers, parks, yards and museums.

This is a not to be missed exhibition with many concerts (free or for a fee) of the best national and international artists. Among the reportable events: on Saturday, 18 May, the French-Canadian songwriter Alexandra Stréliski will performe at the sunrise in Santa Maria delle Grazie, while on Sunday, 19 May, in Piazza delle Rimembranze the pianist Fabrizio Grecchi will play a piano solo dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' album “Abbey Road”.

Not only music: from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May the 92th edition of the Gathering of the Italian Alpine Corps will take place: this year it is going to be an historical event because it is linked to the centenary of the foundation of the National Alpine Association. The route will pass through these places: corso Venezia, piazza San Babila, corso Matteotti, piazza Meda, via San Paolo, corso Vittorio Emanuele II, piazza Duomo, via Orefici, via Dante (dissolution in largo Cairoli and Foro Buonaparte).

“FOG Triennale Milano Performing Arts”, 15th March – 5th June, Teatro dell'Arte

Meanwhile, until 5 June, for those people passionate about live arts, it will be possible to discover “FOG Triennale Milano Performing Arts”, the festival of the Triennale Teatro dell'Arte dedicated to the new expressions of theater, dance and music. The festival, now on its second edition, focuses on the opening and the plurality of the languages and the shapes, with a widespread programming in the city. It has to be discovered.

“Photofestival Milano 2019”, 17th April – 30th June

Lastly, the photography enthusiasts could admire the artistic photographs of “Photofestival Milano”, a widespread exhibition throughout the city, with 177 events until 30 June. The exposition, now on its fourteenth edition, will involve the main art galleries and museums of the city, as well as several exhibition halls. In these two months – the total length of the exhibit – it will be possible to admire the best of the Italian and international photographical offer.
